[00:01:32] Lori: Okay, let's dive in. All right, so my

[00:01:35] Lori: next guest,

[00:01:35] Lori: we have been friends for probably a little bit over 30 years, and we have toured together and we hit 106 cities.

[00:01:45] Lori: Uh, let's see what else. She has been in numerous films, television. She's done Playboy. This woman has done it all. And let's just put it this way. If somebody said to her, you can't do something, she'll say, watch me, and she'll get it done.

[00:02:02] Lori: I am so excited to have her here, Ray Holly Olson, better known as Zap from the American Glad Eats. Yay.

[00:02:10] Raye - ZAP: This is crazy.

[00:02:11] Lori: goes wild.

[00:02:13] Raye - ZAP: this podcast. I love it. You have your hands in everything

[00:02:18] Lori: girl, so do you.

[00:02:20] Lori: you.

[00:02:20] Lori: do

[00:02:21] Lori: too. You have your, I mean, it's, look at what you look at. Okay.

[00:02:24] Lori: Look

[00:02:25] Lori: at what you've done.

[00:02:26] Lori: And that is just

[00:02:27] Lori: simply so cool. I mean, from. We're gonna go over all of it too. So we're gonna have some fun with this body building. Um, power lifting, television, film,

[00:02:38] Lori: Playboy,

[00:02:39] Lori: snowboard instructor, uh, fitness,

[00:02:42] Lori: uh, you name

[00:02:43] Lori: it, you've

[00:02:43] Lori: done it right,

[00:02:44] Raye - ZAP: including a lot of things that I would probably not mention that I do on the side, but, hey, you gotta shovel snow sometimes.

[00:02:52] Raye - ZAP: What are you gonna

[00:02:53] Lori: Hell yeah. Oh my God. Let's start with, you

[00:02:57] Lori: know what, let's,

[00:02:58] Lori: let's start with, I mean, what

[00:02:59] Lori: are you doing? What are you, what

[00:03:00] Lori: I

[00:03:01] Lori: know that

[00:03:02] Lori: I actually, I actually got on the internet

[00:03:04] Lori: and started

[00:03:05] Lori: Googling you and what you've done and all that kind of stuff, and it's

[00:03:09] Lori: like, wow,

[00:03:10] Lori: you know, some of the stuff I didn't even

[00:03:11] Lori: know

[00:03:12] Raye - ZAP: you mean this is lately.

[00:03:13] Lori: Lately

[00:03:14] Raye - ZAP: you didn't

[00:03:15] Raye - ZAP: know 30 years ago.

[00:03:17] Lori: Oh my God, you've done so

[00:03:18] Lori: much.

[00:03:19] Raye - ZAP: my goodness. Come on.

[00:03:20] Lori: First of all, let me ask you this, um, what you're working on right now, I know that you're

[00:03:25] Lori: kind

[00:03:25] Lori: of taking it

[00:03:26] Lori: back out

[00:03:26] Lori: there again. You have a script that you wrote and now you're going back out and you're just like, screw this. I'm gonna do

[00:03:33] Lori: this.

[00:03:33] What is Zap doing now?

[00:03:33] Raye - ZAP: I am, uh, quite frankly, it's called Still Waters. And when Matt Damon came out, With still water. It kinda hit me. I'm like, oh, but it didn't matter. It just made me pull my script out, and dusted off, and it's, it's a good story. It's a great story. It has to do with women and, uh, the strength and the power that we have.

[00:04:00] Raye - ZAP: And there's a lot of current events that it involve. So I sent it to Margo Robbie's, uh, production company, Lu Lucky Champ. So we'll see. I don't know. Why not?

[00:04:14] Raye - ZAP: You never

[00:04:15] Lori: Why not you? You literally, it's like our whole career. We've just like thrown things at the wall to see if they're gonna stick or not. Right.

[00:04:22] Raye - ZAP: So true. And they stuck. Uh,

[00:04:25] Lori: Exactly. Still waters. It's funny because it's like

[00:04:28] Lori: The

[00:04:29] Lori: name of it sounds so creepy. It really doesn't. I always, I don't know why, it's just that's where my brain goes right away. Still water. It's like what's gonna come up from it. But what you just described is totally.

[00:04:42] Raye - ZAP: Well, it's pretty creepy, laurie, but not in a bad sense. It has two, uh, love birds, uh, coming up in, Quebec, and they get into some messes and parents aren't there and they flee. They go down because they speak French and they go down to the bayou. That's why I called it stillwaters. And the trouble, um, follows them down

[00:05:07] Raye - ZAP: there.

[00:05:07] Raye - ZAP: and finds them.

[00:05:10] Raye - ZAP: And, but it's, it's, it has a lot to do with empowerment for women and the strength how to get out of a situation.

[00:05:19] Lori: I love that.

[00:05:21] Raye - ZAP: And. start a

[00:05:22] Raye - ZAP: new,

[00:05:23] Raye - ZAP: but it is, it's in Canada. It goes all the way down to, um, the Bayou. And that's what I love about it.

[00:05:30] Raye - ZAP: It's

[00:05:30] Lori: cool.

[00:05:30] Raye - ZAP:

[00:05:30] Lori: You know, God,

[00:05:32] Lori: we, we've,

[00:05:32] Lori: it's, I wish you all the luck in that. I mean, sure. You

[00:05:35] Lori: just gotta like, put

[00:05:35] Lori: it out there. Put it out there. Put it out there.

[00:05:37] Lori: How did

[00:05:38] Lori: you become a snowboard

[00:05:39] Lori: instructor, by the way? I've never known that story. I mean, that's awesome.

[00:05:43] Raye - ZAP: living in Malibu for all those years.

[00:05:46] Raye - ZAP: doing what we did with gladiators. We had a lot of time off and I ended up always on the mountain. Didn't matter. Mountain high, big Bear, Utah, always on the

[00:05:57] Raye - ZAP: mountain.

[00:05:58] Raye - ZAP: And then it got to a point where I was spending so much time in the snow and then, uh, the new hubby, he's not new, it's like eight years

[00:06:09] Raye - ZAP: now.

[00:06:09] Lori: Right.

[00:06:12] Raye - ZAP: He is like, have you ever been to Tahoe? I'm like, no. Once we crossed over and you know this, Lori, once I crossed over and saw the lake, was it. And I applied. I didn't even have to show that I can snowboard. They kind of just the guy who knew who I was and it was just balls to wall since then,

[00:06:31] Lori: oh my God, So cool.

[00:06:32] Lori: That's

[00:06:33] Lori: awesome. I love that.

[00:06:35] Lori: Let's

[00:06:35] Lori: scoot into your,

[00:06:36] Lori: uh,

[00:06:37] Lori: did you ever go pro when you were a

[00:06:38] Lori: bodybuilder?

[00:06:39] Bodybuilding and becoming an actress

[00:06:39] Raye - ZAP: I did not, I stopped at national level.

[00:06:41] Lori: Okay.

[00:06:42] Raye - ZAP: I got really close in New York. they stopped drug testing.

[00:06:46] Raye - ZAP: never got that big, I always kind of got

[00:06:50] Raye - ZAP: ripped. Um, and, and you would know this, but once I got on stage at the Nationals and they stopped the drug testing, I looked like a fitness model.

[00:07:01] Raye - ZAP: And that was the end of it

[00:07:02] Raye - ZAP: for me. I was just, I, I'm not gonna go there. I'm not gonna compete with these women.

[00:07:09] Raye - ZAP: No.

[00:07:10] Lori: They were massive.

[00:07:10] Lori: I know. And it, and like if you wanted to compete at that level, you had to.

[00:07:15] Raye - ZAP: Yeah.

[00:07:16] Lori: You

[00:07:16] Lori: had to and you

[00:07:17] Lori: had to do a lot.

[00:07:18] Lori: not just tamper or play a lot, you know?

[00:07:23] Raye - ZAP: And Lori, the, the rewards, I mean, getting trophies and trophies, I mean, thank goodness.

[00:07:29] Raye - ZAP: And you know, this, it was a stepping stone I mean, I got that movie Skin Deep with John Ritter, where I was a huge bodybuilder at that time. Not huge. I was just out of outta shape. We'll put it that way.

[00:07:41] Lori: Nah, you look great.

[00:07:43] Raye - ZAP: Thank you. But Thank goodness. Uh, the gladiators came along.

[00:07:47] Raye - ZAP: and I guess I'm glad I got out of the body building, uh, arena when I did, because I did not wanna take it further. I just didn't like what I was seeing on stage.

[00:07:58] Lori: Yeah, and, and the judges were like, with the women, they were just like, you know, we've gotta stop the women getting so big. I was like, stop rewarding them and making them win first and second place because the minute you stop rewarding them is the minute they're gonna stop doing all the drugs. Mind blowing.

[00:08:16] Lori: But yet they blamed it on the women, you know? It's just crazy.

[00:08:21] Raye - ZAP: Yeah. You and I did, uh, what Linda Murray's she's an icon to win that thing, what, seven, eight times.

[00:08:27] Lori: Unbelievable.

[00:08:29] Raye - ZAP: Sitting there, getting interviewed by her, you know, we're going back and forth because she loves what we did.

[00:08:35] Raye - ZAP: And it's just to see, you know, how she came out of it. And thank God she kept her femininity and she's so

[00:08:45] Lori: She's so beautiful. yeah, exactly. I love that about her.

[00:08:50] Lori: So now

[00:08:52] Lori: it's interesting because also, like you said, for trophies, women's

[00:08:55] Lori: body building, they had, you can't, you didn't earn any money

[00:08:58] Lori: really. I mean, there was like the whole underground wrestling bullshit, but it's like, I know I did like maybe one or two Bill Wick, and then I'm like, ah, this isn't necessarily for me.

[00:09:11] Lori: But it's like that's, they lured him, you know? It was like, you guys aren't making any money, but hey, do you wanna do a video for 500 bucks and we're gonna make 20 grand on

[00:09:18] Lori: it? Yeah.

[00:09:20] Lori: It's Like ridiculous.

[00:09:22] Raye - ZAP: well, we

[00:09:23] Raye - ZAP: were, young and you know, even when we got into gladiators, you weren't there the first season, so you didn't know none. None of us knew what the heck we were gonna get into.

[00:09:33] Lori: Oh my God. I so wanna ask you about that, by the

[00:09:35] Lori: way.

[00:09:36] Raye - ZAP: At least you had a season to see what was really going on to

[00:09:41] Raye - ZAP: me,

[00:09:42] Raye - ZAP: Eh, we're athletes. Eh, it was kind of fun,

[00:09:46] Lori: definitely. It was fun.

[00:09:48] Raye - ZAP: turned into an empire. was like,

[00:09:50] Lori: Before we go into any of the gladiator stuff, cuz we're gonna have some fun with

[00:09:54] Lori: that. I mean television, you did Baywatch, you did Jag. I mean, when you were

[00:09:59] Lori: on Baywatch,

[00:09:59] Lori: did you actually work with Pamela?

[00:10:01] Lori: I mean, did

[00:10:02] Lori: you have scenes with her and stuff? Cuz I forgot, I'll be honest with you.

[00:10:04] Lori: It's been so many years ago.

[00:10:06] Raye - ZAP: Let's not get into

[00:10:06] Raye - ZAP: decades. It's not years.

[00:10:08] Lori: I know exactly.

[00:10:11] Lori: but was

[00:10:11] Lori: it like super? Was she, was

[00:10:13] Lori: she nice?

[00:10:13] Lori: Was it fun being on set or was it just like strictly business?

[00:10:17] Raye - ZAP: No,

[00:10:18] Raye - ZAP: no. Complete, down to earth. Beautiful, helpful.

[00:10:23] Raye - ZAP: scenes were always in Malibu.

[00:10:25] Raye - ZAP: I lived right there anyway, so it was just an honor, honestly, from the body building world, I'm not gonna, you know, I'm not gonna say anything bad because it launched, I was supposed to be a lawyer. That didn't happen. I ended up in entertainment and on magazines and things like

[00:10:45] Lori: What kind of

[00:10:46] Lori: lawyer

[00:10:46] Lori: were you gonna.

[00:10:46] Lori: be?

[00:10:47] Raye - ZAP: started as paralegal at a downtown law firm when I was 18, until I was still started body building and, uh, litigation, anything that was serious. And then all of a sudden I got a call from Skindeep, from Lake Edwards and that whole company and went and auditioned for that. And that changed my world.

[00:11:09] Lori: Changed your life.

[00:11:12] Raye - ZAP: Yeah. And I'm actually glad for it because I would not wanna be a lawyer right now.

[00:11:18] Lori: Oh

[00:11:18] Lori: God. I know. Exactly.

[00:11:21] Lori: Now

[00:11:21] Lori: how

[00:11:21] Lori: was it working on Jag? Was it fun?

[00:11:23] Lori: I saw, I I saw that. That was very

[00:11:25] Lori: cool.

[00:11:25] Zap's Playboy photoshoot

[00:11:25] Raye - ZAP: you know, when gladiators, stopped and we knew it was at the end and I was literally believing that I would have another long. It's not sitcom episodic film. And I went in, I did Playboy or did the test shots in uh, Hawaii, and then they got, I got called for Jag saying, you got it, but you need to cut your hair. And I had no problem. I knew I wasn't even thinking of Playboy my hair was down, you know, past the boobies you know, it was nice.

[00:12:04] Raye - ZAP: And then I cut my hair for Jag, thinking I had a long run happening. Um, we were on a carrier down in, uh, Texas, uh, and it was six weeks. It was awesome. And then I get a call from Playboy saying, your test shots went through and now, uh, we wanna shoot you in a

[00:12:28] Raye - ZAP: couple weeks. And I'm like,

[00:12:30] Raye - ZAP: I cut all my hair off.

[00:12:32] Raye - ZAP: That was kind of like my thing, because being so muscular as you know, Laura, you know, when you're that size, you try to be feminine. At least I try to be feminine with the hair with, because when you're 160 pounds you kind of walking around and people look at you like you're a dude.

[00:12:52] Lori: No, I get it. I so

[00:12:54] Lori: get

[00:12:54] Raye - ZAP: Rose. were the eighties. But anyway, so when I got that call saying, no, Playboy, um, in Chicago, they green lit you. And I'm like going, no, no way. So

[00:13:09] Lori: That is

[00:13:10] Lori: so cool. I had, I had no idea that Jag

[00:13:12] Lori: actually, that's how you cut your hair. I mean, I, I just simply thought, okay, I'm

[00:13:17] Lori: kind of done let's

[00:13:18] Lori: try it. Like, like me, when the first time I cut my hair, I was like, oh, if I don't like it, the hair, I'll grow out. You know? That was kind of like my thought. But then, and I was, I was, I hear what you're saying about bodybuilding because I was like, okay, so if I cut my hair short, and this was like the first time, years and years ago, I'm gonna have to wear makeup all the time.

[00:13:34] Lori: You know? And you're right about trying to stay feminine. I had like long fingernails and I painted 'em

[00:13:39] Lori: red, and

[00:13:40] Raye - ZAP: I

[00:13:41] Lori: I sit back and I laugh. I laugh at that. Oh my God. It's, I mean, for me it was just like I had somebody come up to me.

[00:13:49] Lori: Those don't match you at all. I was like, I just wasn't comfortable in my skin,

[00:13:55] Lori: you

[00:13:55] Lori: know? I mean,

[00:13:55] Lori: having short hair and being really big and muscular

[00:13:58] Lori: and

[00:13:58] Raye - ZAP: Yeah.

[00:13:59] Raye - ZAP: And I agree, and I did not, it was the hardest thing. I think that's one of the hardest things in my life was doing Playboy at that size with short hair.

[00:14:09] Lori: Yeah. But

[00:14:10] Lori: it

[00:14:10] Lori: came

[00:14:10] Lori: out beautiful. How was that experience? How was that experience? I mean, when you go in, you take off all your clothes, you have a room. How many people were in the room when you were doing it?

[00:14:22] Raye - ZAP: Three.

[00:14:22] Lori: Three. Oh, that's not

[00:14:23] Lori: bad.

[00:14:24] Raye - ZAP: They weren't in a room. When I did Playboy, the test shots were done in Maui. My hair was down to, you know, past my, my breasts, which was I was trying to cover.

[00:14:34] Lori: . Mm-hmm.

[00:14:35] Raye - ZAP: make no sense.

[00:14:36] Lori: Next, you're on Playboy. They wanna see your boobs.

[00:14:41] Raye - ZAP: I wanted to cover them. And, uh, and then to get a call from Jag saying you got cast as Lieutenant Cassie Puller. And I was just over the moon to go down there beyond an aircraft carrier, um, with David James Elliot and Don Valario. me, it wa it wasn't scary at all. I didn't know how

[00:15:06] Raye - ZAP: to act,

[00:15:07] Raye - ZAP: didn't care.

[00:15:08] Lori: Yeah.

[00:15:09] Raye - ZAP: was me. Um, but then I get the call from Playboy and we shot in the desert, Lori. We took a, an rv. There was the makeup guy, who did, um, Pamela Anderson's makeup. Best guy love him. Um, wardrobe, um, stage. We went out into the, um, the desert in the sand dunes. They set up a bed with beautiful, um, flowing sheets.

[00:15:42] Lori: It's

[00:15:43] Lori: so

[00:15:44] Raye - ZAP: caught the wind. And It was cool. And it was, so there wasn't anybody there. There was the four of us and the photographer, and that was

[00:15:51] Lori: so you felt super comfortable,

[00:15:54] Raye - ZAP: Beyond, and it was so bloody hot that it didn't care about taking the clothes off.

[00:15:59] Lori: right?

[00:16:00] Raye - ZAP: hustler. It's not hustler. It's boy, boy, close your legs, things like that.

[00:16:06] Raye - ZAP: So classy. So, ugh, 100%. I'd do it

[00:16:11] Lori: is so cool. So did it

[00:16:13] Lori: change your life in any way whatsoever? Did it open more doors? What did it do? How did you feel

[00:16:18] Lori: about it?

[00:16:19] Raye - ZAP: . The only thing that the Playboy did for me, besides put a big chunk of change in my bank account

[00:16:25] Lori: Right.

[00:16:25] Lori: the tabloids.

[00:16:26] Raye - ZAP: started coming after me for people I, who I was hanging out with.

[00:16:31] Raye - ZAP: Or I'd get invited to the Playboy mansion

[00:16:33] Raye - ZAP: because

[00:16:34] Raye - ZAP: it's very

[00:16:35] Raye - ZAP: exclusive,

[00:16:36] Raye - ZAP: very hard to get in there. But then now everybody was my friend and I mean, Thank God. I don't think I ever got an ego for some reason, I don't know, from Pennsylvania, from a trailer, seriously. But when the tabloids started printing stuff, that was not true.

[00:16:58] Raye - ZAP: Um, yeah, it became hurtful, especially when my family was calling me going, what did you do? I'm like, I didn't do anything.

[00:17:06] Raye - ZAP: I think that's the only detriment.

[00:17:08] Lori: well think about it back then. Now it's like you own it, it's so

[00:17:13] Lori: cool.

[00:17:14] Lori: But

[00:17:15] Lori: back then, I mean, it's like everything seemed to be kind of taboo.

[00:17:19] Lori: It's like,

[00:17:20] Lori: oh my God, you did Playboy. Um, you're right. It wasn't hustler, it wasn't Penthouse. I mean, Playboy was like amazing. You know?

[00:17:30] Lori: Everybody wanted to be in Playboy. But yet, like what you said when you did it, it was like, ah, you did what,

[00:17:36] Were the Gladiator supportive?

[00:17:36] Lori: know, how did the gladiators, I mean, did, how was the Gladiator show? How did they treat you afterwards? Were they, were they supportive?

[00:17:44] Lori: I mean,

[00:17:44] Lori: cause I don't know any about the anything. I mean, this is all your world.

[00:17:48] Lori: Were they supportive? Were they were like, ah, were they like, yay,

[00:17:52] Lori: How are they?

[00:17:53] Lori: Honestly,

[00:17:56] Lori: honestly,

[00:17:59] Lori: Hey, it's our

[00:18:00] Lori: podcast. This is our podcast.

[00:18:03] Raye - ZAP: Come to Tahoe, find me, get through the 15 feet of snow that I can't see outside my windows right now. I'm not kidding.

[00:18:11] Lori: I believe

[00:18:12] Raye - ZAP: Um, this was the problem. You, we, how many years were you there? Five years

[00:18:20] Lori: Uh,

[00:18:21] Lori: about six.

[00:18:22] Lori: I missed the first 13 and then the last

[00:18:24] Lori: one of the

[00:18:25] Raye - ZAP: Okay. So I'm sitting on my deck in Malibu. And after I did Jag and got the call from Playboy, um, that you got green lit and

[00:18:41] Raye - ZAP: you're,

[00:18:42] Raye - ZAP: you're ready to go. I'm Like, oh my God. Um, gladiators wanted nothing to do with that after I told them. So I quit the seventh year. I just quit. I said, if you don't want me on the show because I'm getting, I'm gonna be in Playboy because it's a home. It's not a kid's show, they don't want me back. Well then is this, can I go like that? Because that's what I, that's that's how it went. I was like, no, I'm not coming back and fine bullshit. Sure enough, the last year, and you know this cuz you, oh my gosh. You just.

[00:19:26] Raye - ZAP: Interviewed Dallas.

[00:19:27] Raye - ZAP: And they called me back, to be a, this was a trip. And you know this cuz we went against each other.

[00:19:35] Lori: Which I hated.

[00:19:36] Raye - ZAP: go

[00:19:37] Raye - ZAP: a, Yeah. So did I,

[00:19:38] Lori: it was weird.

[00:19:39] Raye - ZAP: I was supposed to go against Dallas, who, who's a newcomer, who I didn't know. She's young, didn't have all the injuries. She's an athlete, a gymnast. And I'm sitting in Malibu like, we have this idea, we're gonna have you come back. You're gonna be a gladiator against a glad new gladiator against your old gladiators.

[00:20:03] Lori: Right? Didn't even make sense.

[00:20:06] Raye - ZAP: at that point, Lori, I didn't care. I was just like, yeah, What's it paying

[00:20:11] Lori: exactly. It's like, what the fuck?

[00:20:13] Raye - ZAP: And they said this and I said, You know what? You double that. I'll be

[00:20:18] Raye - ZAP: there.

[00:20:19] Lori: Good.

[00:20:19] Raye - ZAP: I get a

[00:20:20] Raye - ZAP: call back, done,

[00:20:22] Raye - ZAP: and then I go back regretting every second of it going up against all of

[00:20:26] Raye - ZAP: you,

[00:20:27] Raye - ZAP: which is ridiculous.

[00:20:28] Lori: was so dumb.

[00:20:29] Raye - ZAP: didn't

[00:20:29] Raye - ZAP: make any

[00:20:30] Lori: Didn't make any

[00:20:31] Lori: sense whatsoever, and I don't even, I don't think the

[00:20:33] Lori: episode did

[00:20:34] Raye - ZAP: laughed. You and I

[00:20:35] Raye - ZAP: laughed.

[00:20:36] Lori: We were just like

[00:20:36] Lori: what

[00:20:37] Lori: the fuck are we

[00:20:37] Lori: doing?

[00:20:38] Raye - ZAP: wall. Yeah. I mean there, there were, we're all like looking at each other going, let's just sit over with. And then at the end I remember cuz I was so tired, beat up and Lori, you know, this, after the, um, the tour, we, we took a lot of

[00:20:55] Raye - ZAP: injuries.

[00:20:57] Raye - ZAP: I mean, after so many years on that show and then Shannon came in. the eliminator. I just couldn't do it. I, my body just wouldn't move, So I ended

[00:21:08] Raye - ZAP: up

[00:21:08] Lori: that eliminator. I don't know.

[00:21:11] Lori: I, I remember we used to remember we used to sit and watch the contenders cuz we were done with the show and we'd sit back when we'd, you know, sit on the mats or wherever we were at in the con, you know, on the eliminator watching him. And I'd be like, God, I'm so damn glad I don't have to do this thing.

[00:21:25] Raye - ZAP: after hours and hours and doing it. at 11 o'clock, midnight

[00:21:28] Lori: just gotta be

[00:21:29] Raye - ZAP: then me going up against Shannon, hang on. Me going up against Shannon who's, maybe she's 12 years younger, I don't know, maybe 15. Um, yeah, I had the experience, I did not have the Tamina and I didn't care at that point.

[00:21:45] Raye - ZAP: And I got up on top at the end and climbed up that wall, sat there and cuz I'm, you, you're the same an entertainer. I just looked at the camera and said out with the old. In with a new sound's gone. And that was the end of the season. That was, didn't go on after that. And I was so thrilled.

[00:22:10] Raye - ZAP: Sorry, am I waving

[00:22:11] Raye - ZAP: my hands too much,

[00:22:12] Lori: Oh no, I Trust me. It's funny, it's, it's funny you say that cause everybody goes, you talk with your hands and

[00:22:17] Lori: I'm like, I never really noticed that. You know? but see, it's,

[00:22:20] Lori: so, It's so bizarre that

[00:22:22] Lori: like they put you in that, but

[00:22:24] Lori: whatever. So, So let me ask you.

[00:22:26] Lori: this. Um, the first season, the very, very first 13 episodes you ever did on the gladiators,

[00:22:34] The first season of American Gladiators

[00:22:34] Lori: how was

[00:22:35] Lori: it completely different

[00:22:37] Lori: than we, we were in the middle of the season?

[00:22:39] Lori: I mean, did they completely change things? Was it,

[00:22:42] Lori: was it

[00:22:42] Lori: like, you're gonna be a character,

[00:22:45] Lori: you're gonna be, I, I mean, how was it? I mean, I can't even imagine.

[00:22:49] Raye - ZAP: when the show.

[00:22:52] Raye - ZAP: Just like every other casting

[00:22:53] Raye - ZAP: call,

[00:22:54] Raye - ZAP: there was a casting call

[00:22:56] Raye - ZAP: at Gold's Gym. Um, I was in my prime of body building and you know how Lori, when you're in that prime, all you care about is dieting, physique training. I wanted nothing to do with television. I really didn't. I thought I was on a roll

[00:23:18] Raye - ZAP: until the Nationals,

[00:23:19] Raye - ZAP: but that first season, they came up with six characters.

[00:23:24] Raye - ZAP: I believe it was

[00:23:27] Raye - ZAP: Nitro, sunny Lace, Gemini. Malibu. And then there was a character. These are all characters. You got to choose your name. You Lucky awesome

[00:23:45] Lori: Zap is a cool name,

[00:23:46] Lori: though. Yeah, but Zap is

[00:23:47] Lori: a cool name. You're lucky.

[00:23:49] Raye - ZAP: No

[00:23:49] Raye - ZAP: there aren't any songs. Okay.

[00:23:52] Lori: Oh, okay.

[00:23:52] Raye - ZAP: Um, so it came across the breakdowns that they were looking for, like nitro explosive, Gemini two, uh, personalities, sunny, tall and sunny lace, sexy lace, blah, blah. And, and they didn't find a

[00:24:14] Raye - ZAP: zap.

[00:24:15] Raye - ZAP: Um, and I fit that character and I didn't have to audition for that character. Um, you weren't there that first season when.

[00:24:25] Raye - ZAP: everybody

[00:24:26] Raye - ZAP: had to go to Universal, universal Studios and audition hundreds of contestants, hundreds of actors, and I don't even think hundreds.

[00:24:39] Raye - ZAP: Uh, um, Lori, maybe thousands. Um, but then Johnny Ferraro, who created the show, his dad was a huge fan of mine. He had a poster on his door in his garage

[00:24:52] Raye - ZAP: From my body building days. And he and Gemini came and

[00:24:57] Raye - ZAP: picked me up in a limo.

[00:24:59] Raye - ZAP: Nobody was there. I didn't have to audition. The producers were, um, gonna leave town, and the guys, the producers just said, can we just see you run the obstacle course?

[00:25:13] Lori: Wow.

[00:25:14] Raye - ZAP: or you know,

[00:25:16] Lori: like,

[00:25:16] Lori: yeah.

[00:25:17] Raye - ZAP: if anybody knows, you know,

[00:25:19] Raye - ZAP: Okay. You're hired. Z Zap. The character was, strikes like lightning causes a lot of damage. It's in, fast, gets out fast. like that, like a lightning strike. that first season was, I'm not gonna say a joke, because they stuck it out.

[00:25:38] Raye - ZAP: It was,

[00:25:39] Lori: Yeah.

[00:25:40] Raye - ZAP: It was hard on everybody. We Didn't have any idea what the events were, but as an athlete, I don't know.

[00:25:48] Lori: I hear you. I

[00:25:49] Lori: know. What's

[00:25:50] Lori: the coolest place you ever went when you were doing, when you were doing gladiators?

[00:25:54] Lori: Coolest place you ever traveled?

[00:25:56] Coolest things Zap has done

[00:25:56] Raye - ZAP: Japan.

[00:25:57] Lori: Ah, that's awesome.

[00:25:59] Raye - ZAP: Yeah, because they did a, a show called Bam, bam, bam. Nacho. Who else? you didn't go.

[00:26:07] Lori: I actually got invited and I didn't wanna travel to Japan, and that's when I was in Orlando. I actually gave it to Dallas.

[00:26:15] Lori: she went in my place. She went,

[00:26:17] Lori: but she must have been at a different time than you guys because I think she was by herself because she went and did bang, bang, bang and, and Japan.

[00:26:25] Lori: But she wasn't with you

[00:26:26] Lori: guys then.

[00:26:27] Raye - ZAP: Lori, the way they treated us in Japan as Americans, the Japan was so clean, so pristine. But you had their gladiators in the back, smoking cigarettes,

[00:26:44] Raye - ZAP: sushi before they did an

[00:26:46] Raye - ZAP: event.

[00:26:47] Lori: Oh my god. That's how it was at the international show in England. all the gladiators in England were all backstage. You'd walk into the locker room Ray and, and it was like walking into a

[00:26:56] Lori: bar and it was

[00:26:58] Lori: just like, whoa.

[00:26:59] Lori: And you know how much you guys used to give me shit cuz I smoked when I was doing the gladiators and I was the only one on backstage and I'd do an event and come back out, light up a cigarette, and all

[00:27:07] Lori: you guys would be looking at me like,

[00:27:09] Lori: what the

[00:27:09] Lori: fuck are you doing?

[00:27:12] Lori: I was the only gladiator that smoked on the team.

[00:27:15] Raye - ZAP: obviously it didn't matter.

[00:27:17] Lori: No, it didn't matter. All right, so who is the coolest celebrity slash athlete you met?

[00:27:23] Raye - ZAP: Dated, or met.

[00:27:26] Lori: Now,

[00:27:26] Lori: Well, let's go dated and then met,

[00:27:29] Lori: or

[00:27:30] Raye - ZAP: is this show?

[00:27:31] Lori: we got an hour. We got another 30 minutes. I

[00:27:34] Lori: don't need your list. Let's go Met. Who is a cool celebrity? Met? Not

[00:27:40] Lori: dated,

[00:27:41] Lori: not

[00:27:41] Lori: did.

[00:27:42] Lori: Is the list getting

[00:27:43] Lori: smaller?

[00:27:44] Raye - ZAP: You're killing me.

[00:27:47] Raye - ZAP: Um, okay. Muhammad Ali.

[00:27:50] Lori: Whoa. That's

[00:27:51] Lori: cool.

[00:27:52] Raye - ZAP: Ray Leonard,

[00:27:52] Raye - ZAP: Laurie. we've done so many appearances.

[00:27:56] Lori: know, but still

[00:27:56] Lori: that's what I'm saying.

[00:27:58] Raye - ZAP: Celebrities, Dan Marino. I mean, you name the player

[00:28:03] Lori: You, Yeah.

[00:28:04] Lori: That's

[00:28:05] Lori: cool. I never met

[00:28:05] Lori: those guys though. My biggest one was, um, Bruce Springsteen. Tom Hanks. Those

[00:28:10] Lori: were my two big one. But that's Mohamed.

[00:28:14] Lori: That's amazing.

[00:28:16] Raye - ZAP: but then you never trained at Golden Venice.

[00:28:19] Lori: Right, exactly.

[00:28:20] Raye - ZAP: You had everybody.

[00:28:22] Raye - ZAP: Who's anybody? And they're so cool. Ray Liotta loved him.

[00:28:28] Raye - ZAP: God rest his soul. I mean, there are so many friends that were in that gym all the time. That I can go down a list and they're gone now. And that is sad. Like you have no idea. Cuz these were good people. They weren't high on their horse. They were just in there to train and

[00:28:55] Lori: All right.

[00:28:55] Lori: Now I'm curious what,

[00:28:58] Lori: top what, what top celebrity did you date?

[00:29:01] Lori: Just one date. Let's say you went out on one date.

[00:29:04] Raye - ZAP: Reggie Jackson.

[00:29:05] Lori: Okay. Very cool.

[00:29:07] Raye - ZAP: Dan Marino.

[00:29:10] Lori: And keep going. How is Dan? I

[00:29:14] Lori: love Dan Marino. That is so cool.

[00:29:17] Raye - ZAP: said one.

[00:29:17] Lori: know, I know.

[00:29:19] Lori: It's okay. So I'm gonna give you I date. I went on one date with a football player and it was Bob Golic.

[00:29:27] Lori: and

[00:29:27] Raye - ZAP: yeah.

[00:29:28] Raye - ZAP: Oh

[00:29:29] Lori: yes.

[00:29:30] Lori: this, you know, here's what's so funny about that. I'll never forget, we were sitting there watching a movie or something

[00:29:36] Lori: and I looked

[00:29:37] Lori: next to me.

[00:29:38] Lori: This man was so ginormous, I felt like a little kid next to him. His hands

[00:29:45] Lori: were like, I mean, it was

[00:29:46] Lori: just, for me, it was kind

[00:29:48] Lori: of like the,

[00:29:49] Lori: the weirdest kind of thing because he was so fucking big.

[00:29:52] Lori: you know? It was just like, and I know someone would've been like, yeah, that's kind of cool, but I just felt like kind of, I don't know, out of place.

[00:30:00] Raye - ZAP: No, Laurie. when I did skin deep, and of course I got invited to the, um, the premiere, which

[00:30:10] Raye - ZAP: again was e exciting.

[00:30:12] Lori: Yeah.

[00:30:13] Raye - ZAP: I wasn't with somebody at the time, and Lyle Zeto

[00:30:18] Lori: Hmm.

[00:30:19] Raye - ZAP: was at the

[00:30:20] Raye - ZAP: gym

[00:30:21] Raye - ZAP: and we were friends and I asked, I was like, what better person, bigger than life?

[00:30:28] Lori: Very true.

[00:30:30] Raye - ZAP: me to the premier rust, his soul again. I know we're losing a

[00:30:35] Raye - ZAP: lot.

[00:30:36] Lori: I know. Does that

[00:30:37] Lori: mean we're getting older? That sucks.

[00:30:39] Raye - ZAP: Uh, hmm. I don't think we're even that old.

[00:30:41] Lori: I know we're not. We're not that old

[00:30:44] Lori: yet.

[00:30:46] Lori: All

[00:30:46] Lori: right, so

[00:30:47] Lori: I'm gonna ask

[00:30:48] Lori: you this.

[00:30:48] Lori: Dan

[00:30:49] Lori: Clark tells a story and I wanna know it from you because you know, love Dan. He can elaborate. Let's be real. He

[00:30:57] Lori: lied. You don't even know what

[00:30:58] Lori: I'm gonna ask you yet.

[00:31:00] Raye - ZAP: I do. I never jumped on his back. I I never gave him a scissor

[00:31:03] Raye - ZAP: thingy.

[00:31:04] Lori: you.

[00:31:04] Lori: What is

[00:31:04] Lori: that? He has? Okay, so let

[00:31:07] Lori: me

[00:31:07] Lori: tell

[00:31:08] Did Dan Clark (Nitro) and Raye Hollitt-Olson date?

[00:31:08] Raye - ZAP: mind. That never happened.

[00:31:10] Lori: Okay, so

[00:31:11] Lori: let me tell

[00:31:12] Lori: The listeners for a moment, what I'm talking about. Dan Clark says that you guys went out on a

[00:31:18] Lori: date.

[00:31:19] Lori: He, you guys were going back to his place. He said, Hey, do you want a

[00:31:22] Lori: piggyback ride? You

[00:31:23] Lori: jump on his back and you asked him, do you want me to squeeze you?

[00:31:28] Lori: Squeezed? Took the breath out of him, dropped into his knees, dropped his manhood to his knees, apparently, and he looked at you and said, we're just gonna be friends. And I was like, what?

[00:31:39] Lori: He has this story in his mind that this happened, and I knew I was gonna ask you this.

[00:31:46] Raye - ZAP: Yeah. And Dan was doing a lot of whatever he was doing back then, although every time he brings that up, which he brought it up in our documentary, and I just sit there and shake my head going, I don't know where he got this from.

[00:32:03] Raye - ZAP: He can be all pissed off. But I'm telling you right now, we never were on a

[00:32:07] Raye - ZAP: date

[00:32:08] Raye - ZAP: ever.

[00:32:08] Raye - ZAP: I've never dated that man.

[00:32:12] Raye - ZAP: And if I, I don't care if I was 160 pounds back then. Even if I got on his back at him at two 50. This is something that's stuck in his brain. And I love you, Dan. I do, I do.

[00:32:26] Raye - ZAP: But I'm really sorry that never

[00:32:29] Lori: But Nitro, we're calling your ass out and that never happened.

[00:32:32] Raye - ZAP: I know.

[00:32:34] Raye - ZAP: Bring up photos or something.

[00:32:36] Lori: Give me

[00:32:36] Lori: something.

[00:32:37] Raye - ZAP: We never had a date.

[00:32:40] Raye - ZAP: I'm, I'm,

[00:32:40] Raye - ZAP: I'm, I'm

[00:32:42] Lori: That's funny. I love that.

[00:32:45] Raye - ZAP: I don't know why you love that.

[00:32:47] Lori: No, I love

[00:32:48] Lori: that you're telling your side of

[00:32:50] Lori: the story,

[00:32:51] Lori: and because he is out there telling his side of the story, and it's just like,

[00:32:55] Lori: really?

[00:32:57] Lori: You know, and it's like nobody's ever asked

[00:32:59] Lori: you

[00:33:00] Raye - ZAP: You know me. Can you see me doing

[00:33:03] Lori: No,

[00:33:03] Lori: no. That's why I asked you that. And

[00:33:06] Lori: you're right.

[00:33:06] Lori: There's no, at your biggest,

[00:33:08] Lori: there's no way you

[00:33:09] Lori: could squeeze somebody hard enough to drop 'em to their knees. Come on,

[00:33:13] Lori: Come on.

[00:33:15] Lori: All

[00:33:15] Lori: right. Besides all that,

[00:33:17] Lori: tell me your most memorable moment of our tour.

[00:33:20] American Gladiators Live Tour

[00:33:20] Raye - ZAP: Madison Square Garden.

[00:33:22] Lori: Oh,

[00:33:23] Lori: that's true. I love that.

[00:33:26] Lori: How

[00:33:26] Lori: was your bus experience?

[00:33:30] Raye - ZAP: Um,

[00:33:31] Lori: I mean, we were like rock stars. Let's

[00:33:33] Raye - ZAP: It

[00:33:33] Raye - ZAP: was on what,

[00:33:35] Raye - ZAP: as athletes, the only thing we're, were rock stars. Don't have to train.

[00:33:43] Raye - ZAP: And they can sleep in. And then they get, because I work rock concerts now and I work with a lot of the entertainment. When Lori, I mean, there were only a handful of us who went on, that tour. But you can be rockstar for a couple weeks and then your body starts giving out and you, you have to perform day after day after day. And I will tell you, Laura, you know this, I got hooked on painkillers.

[00:34:14] Lori: Which ones? I got hooked on Vicodin.

[00:34:16] Lori: What were you on?

[00:34:17] Raye - ZAP: Oh no, it was the Vicodin. Um, and I will tell people, Vicodin rolled down into a drug called, uh, Nubain, which is a bodybuilder, uh, painkiller. It's called now Bine New

[00:34:34] Raye - ZAP: Vein.

[00:34:35] Raye - ZAP: But you start with, instead of the Vicodin, which Laura you would know, or even Percocet, You can't perform on them, you're tired, you're groggy.

[00:34:47] Raye - ZAP: That sits in your system and the new bait is an injectable. And you shoot it in. Yeah, you shoot it. And a bunch of us, I'm not gonna say who, um, got hooked. I was hooked on that for six years. It was introduced on the tour bus.

[00:35:05] Lori: Oh, wow.

[00:35:06] Raye - ZAP: can perform, but it's not like a narcotic, it's an opioid that is highly addictive.

[00:35:13] Raye - ZAP: It's like morphine where you don't feel the effects of being high. It just takes away the pain. And after six years, I walk myself into a rehab center and said, I can't do this anymore. I don't know how to get off.

[00:35:26] Lori: that's, I heard about the new

[00:35:28] Lori: Bane. That, but what scared me about the new Bane is, first

[00:35:34] Lori: of all, I fucking hate needles and they make

[00:35:35] Lori: me cringe and I pass out and shit. But anyway,

[00:35:38] Lori: so It's your shit.

[00:35:40] Lori: so that alone right there detoured me.

[00:35:44] Lori: you know? it was like, no, that's all right.

[00:35:45] Lori: But now the Vicodin, I started taking Vicodin my first year on gladiators because, From the human canal.

[00:35:52] Lori: I got nerve damage in my left arm. I didn't know what it was. All I know is my entire left arm would ache and pulsate and just like I was dying and I took, I took a Vicodin, it took the pain away. I felt high. I'll be honest with you, I was doing some events

[00:36:08] Lori: high, you know, the pain was gone.

[00:36:11] Lori: but you're right, the Vicodin, I started kind of getting a little addicted to it.

[00:36:16] Lori: And the only way that I got off of Vicodin is when I would come off Vicodin. I would get this massive, massive headache that that headache was worse than actually taking the Vicodin to ease the pain and, and get the high from it. It wasn't worth the payoff. And so that was the only way I just, boom. I got off a Vicodin within, I

[00:36:38] Lori: think it was about two years. But I felt very, very lucky because I know a lot of you guys were doing the new vein. I didn't know what the extent or the severity was, you know? But um, so that was introduced on the tour then. I had no

[00:36:54] Lori: idea. Wow.

[00:36:57] Raye - ZAP: And then when I, we got back from the tour, walking into the gym, it was insane how many bodybuilders were addicted to this. I walked after I got through the rehab that I walked myself in saying, I'm

[00:37:12] Raye - ZAP: done.

[00:37:14] Raye - ZAP: And, um, going into the gym, uh, helped a lot of, a lot of,

[00:37:21] Lori: that's nuts.

[00:37:23] Lori: However, we

[00:37:25] Lori: did have a, good time on the tour.

[00:37:27] Lori: Maybe it's cuz you were high. No, I'm

[00:37:29] Lori: kidding.

[00:37:32] Raye - ZAP: that was

[00:37:34] Lori: I mean, come on.

[00:37:35] Lori: We did

[00:37:35] Lori: 106 cities, remember? We were like, okay, this is what we're gonna do. We're gonna save our money, we're gonna room together. And then

[00:37:42] Lori: that way we can split our per diem and everything. We were like, any

[00:37:45] Lori: way that we can make more money.

[00:37:48] Raye - ZAP: That was so smart. I forgot

[00:37:49] Lori: that. was Your

[00:37:50] Lori: idea. Thank you. Exactly.

[00:37:54] Lori: and then, I mean, some of the gladiators came and went because of the injuries and it was just absolutely

[00:38:00] Lori: insane.

[00:38:01] Lori: So who would you say,

[00:38:03] Lori: and

[00:38:03] Lori: this is not throwing anyone under the bus,

[00:38:06] Lori: would you say

[00:38:07] Lori: is the most drama on

[00:38:08] Lori: the team? Guy or girl.. If you, if you wanted to choose one, you don't have to choose one.

[00:38:12] Lori: I ask everyone.

[00:38:14] Raye - ZAP: The people who were the most problematic didn't last.

[00:38:19] Lori: I like that.

[00:38:21] Lori: You're right. They

[00:38:22] Raye - ZAP: it was a revolving door and How I lasted for as long as I did, I was just an entertainer. They tried to fire me so many times, Lori, so many times for not wearing gloves on the joust,

[00:38:39] Lori: Stupid shit.

[00:38:41] Lori: Stupid.

[00:38:42] Raye - ZAP: Let me do my job.

[00:38:44] Lori: Well, it's

[00:38:44] Lori: because the

[00:38:45] Lori: producers kept changing too. Remember? So

[00:38:47] Lori: one producer would have a great idea and another producer had another idea. There wasn't one producer throughout the entire thing. They kept changing producers, and so they came up with their own rules is what

[00:38:57] Lori: was

[00:38:57] Lori: happening as

[00:38:58] Raye - ZAP: work. Yeah. That was. Year after year and the, the more popular that we got. But they kept changing, They kept bringing in people.

[00:39:15] Lori: Mm

[00:39:16] Raye - ZAP: They just really didn't know how to, how to do that show, honestly.

[00:39:20] Lori: So in the height of

[00:39:20] Lori: your

[00:39:21] Lori: career, what was it that you wanted to do? If

[00:39:24] Lori: there was anything that you really

[00:39:26] Lori: went like, okay, I wanna do this.

[00:39:29] The End Goal and The Reboot

[00:39:29] Raye - ZAP: I will be honest, I did wanna host it.

[00:39:32] Lori: Oh

[00:39:32] Raye - ZAP: After so many years, knowing like Mike, Adam Lee and Tom Christians and just watching them cuz I'm a watcher and I learn and knowing, uh, our events, our gladiators, just knowing the rhythm and the flow of the show. And they, when I got Playboy and that's when Dan, uh, nitro came in and he ended up hosting a season, that's where I thought I would've fit in.

[00:40:09] Raye - ZAP: And then I truly believed when, uh, American Ninja Warrior started, they were down in Venice and. I thought I would do a hell of a job

[00:40:21] Raye - ZAP: hosting that cuz I'm a good talker, I'm smart, um, articulate, I do research. And, but they had already, um, signed their hosts for three years.

[00:40:33] Lori: You and made a great host, either a ninja warrior or gladiators. You and Dan would've, you and Dan would've gelled together. I don't know why they didn't do that. It made complete sense. Okay, let's put it this way, let's. I am gonna take

[00:40:46] Lori: that and go here.

[00:40:47] Lori: The

[00:40:47] Lori: new the, the, the new reboot gladiators,

[00:40:52] Lori: they should have had,

[00:40:53] Lori: they should have had you and Nitro

[00:40:55] Lori: host it.

[00:40:56] Lori: That would've made sense.

[00:40:57] Raye - ZAP: The second

[00:40:59] Lori: Yeah.

[00:40:59] Lori: The reboot

[00:41:00] Raye - ZAP: I'm so happy that we didn't do that.

[00:41:04] Lori: that.

[00:41:04] Lori: you guys

[00:41:05] Lori: weren't hosting it.

[00:41:06] Raye - ZAP: Oh, we went there. I think you were there. There were only a couple of us. Who went in and watched the show, and I have other friends gladiators for this second reboot that, that they thought they were gonna be a huge hit and they just a force out of what we did for six seven years without the red, white, and blue with bringing like fantasy characters that just, and Hulk Hogan, he was going through some stuff.

[00:41:39] Raye - ZAP: Lela Ali, it just didn't work. and yet Dan and I, but if they would've kept the same

[00:41:45] Raye - ZAP: concept

[00:41:47] Raye - ZAP: with new gladiators, with the red, white, and blue, rather than putting wings on somebody or dumping 'em into the water,

[00:41:53] Lori: I

[00:41:53] Lori: mean,

[00:41:54] Lori: why,

[00:41:54] Lori: why try to fix something that's not broke? I don't know why they went in that direction. I don't actually think it was Johnny Ferraro, I think it was N B C that wanted to do, because you know, come on, Johnny. Johnny

[00:42:07] Lori: is Johnny,

[00:42:07] Lori: but yet his brand is red, white, and blue. And it's, you know, it's all about the muscularity and the, and the, and the, and the, you know, the competition.

[00:42:16] Lori: I think N NBC went, no, let's take it in a different direction and see how it goes. And

[00:42:21] Lori: I think that's what killed

[00:42:22] Lori: it.

[00:42:23] Lori: You know? It did. And it's sad

[00:42:26] Raye - ZAP: heard it.

[00:42:27] Raye - ZAP: I've, I've heard it. I still, unbelievably, three decades later, I'm still

[00:42:32] Raye - ZAP: getting

[00:42:33] Raye - ZAP: daily things to sign Lori thing. I mean, every day at the mailbox. I can't believe

[00:42:42] Raye - ZAP: signing cards, signing

[00:42:45] Raye - ZAP: ev that can get off the internet, but I still do it because that's just who I am.

[00:42:51] Raye - ZAP: And I'm kind and write a nice note and say Thank you for the support and the interest

[00:42:57] Lori: and, it's gonna get worse. You know that.

[00:42:59] Raye - ZAP: Yeah,

[00:43:01] Lori: my big thing is how the hell did they know where I live? I don't like that part

[00:43:06] Lori: of it. But that's just scrub in the internet.

[00:43:09] Lori: So that's a

[00:43:09] Lori: whole nother topic. Um,

[00:43:11] Raye - ZAP: oh yeah,

[00:43:12] Raye - ZAP: I can, I know where you live and I can see if you're home or not.

[00:43:14] Raye - ZAP: You know, A week could go in the cars and yeah,

[00:43:16] Lori: no, it's

[00:43:17] Lori: nuts. I hate that. So what injuries did you get on the show that affect you today?

[00:43:25] Lori: Besides, everything

[00:43:26] Zap's injuries

[00:43:26] Raye - ZAP: our show.

[00:43:27] Raye - ZAP: We

[00:43:27] Lori: I know, right?

[00:43:30] Lori: The big

[00:43:31] Lori: ones.

[00:43:32] Raye - ZAP: I'm not kidding. I think the biggest injury besides the concussions with the rings hit me in the head. Cause

[00:43:42] Raye - ZAP: I was getting all qsy after a while cause they were getting boring

[00:43:45] Raye - ZAP: to me

[00:43:46] Raye - ZAP: after a while.

[00:43:46] Raye - ZAP: You do so many events, you get good

[00:43:49] Raye - ZAP: at

[00:43:50] Raye - ZAP: them, But you have to entertain. And that's why I believe that I was on the show for so long because I was an entertainer and an athlete. And I always verbally. Reached out to the fans in the

[00:44:04] Raye - ZAP: crowd.

[00:44:05] Raye - ZAP: Um, but yeah, I got cocky a few times. Got cracked in the head. Lights out

[00:44:11] Lori: I didn't even know that.

[00:44:13] Raye - ZAP: Oh yeah. bone Nitro comes, laser comes then pick me up. Next thing I know

[00:44:19] Raye - ZAP: I'm

[00:44:19] Lori: You actually passed out. Wow.

[00:44:22] Raye - ZAP: Oh yeah.

[00:44:23] Lori: That's crazy.

[00:44:24] Raye - ZAP: Ask

[00:44:25] Raye - ZAP: Nitro after you ask him about my scissor

[00:44:27] Lori: Exactly,

[00:44:28] Lori: exactly. Yeah. It's

[00:44:31] Lori: uh,

[00:44:31] Raye - ZAP: embellish that a little

[00:44:33] Lori: lower back

[00:44:34] Lori: knees.

[00:44:35] Raye - ZAP: Anyway. No, the, my, my biggest thing, Lori, was my, my breast, the breakthrough and conquer, which, you know, person takes a football, they run at us. They're supposed to go side to side. We're supposed to tackle 'em. Well, this girl is cocky and she just came straight at me with her elbow. Football here.

[00:44:59] Raye - ZAP: And it hit me in the sternum. And my whole entire boob breast shifted underneath my armpit.

[00:45:06] Lori: Oh,

[00:45:07] Lori: Oh,

[00:45:08] Lori: I can only imagine that

[00:45:10] Lori: hurt.

[00:45:10] Raye - ZAP: show that.

[00:45:11] Lori: Why?

[00:45:12] Lori: Why

[00:45:13] Raye - ZAP: isn't that crazy that they don't show that?

[00:45:17] Lori: I

[00:45:18] Lori: don't What?

[00:45:18] Raye - ZAP: total reconstructive surgery besides, um, neck injury. It's, I've had so many injuries, but

[00:45:24] Lori: Oh my

[00:45:24] Lori: god.

[00:45:25] Lori: I know.

[00:45:26] Raye - ZAP: You're an

[00:45:26] Raye - ZAP: athlete

[00:45:27] Raye - ZAP: except the boob. Come on, girl.

[00:45:30] Lori: Oh, I can't believe that. They didn't show that. That's, that's

[00:45:32] Lori: read. They wanted

[00:45:33] Lori: it to, to look like the

[00:45:35] Lori: All-American, you know, wholesome family show, you know, no injuries. But yet we had 'em, you know what I mean? And it's like the only T and the only injury they ever showed in slow motion was when

[00:45:49] Lori: Turbo

[00:45:51] Lori: tore his a c L.

[00:45:52] Lori: That was the only one they ever

[00:45:54] Lori: showed.

[00:45:55] Raye - ZAP: I remember

[00:45:56] Raye - ZAP: that.

[00:45:56] Lori: Yeah. And they kept showing it in slow motion.

[00:46:00] Raye - ZAP: and honestly the bloody noses, the, I mean,

[00:46:05] Lori: oh

[00:46:05] Lori: yeah.

[00:46:07] Raye - ZAP: it didn't show 95% in my recollection.

[00:46:14] Lori: No, they

[00:46:14] Lori: didn't.

[00:46:16] Raye - ZAP: what went down. And we all signed waivers.

[00:46:20] Lori: I, the

[00:46:20] Lori: only waiver I signed was I won't sue you if I die. Basically. It's like, come on. We didn't have any insurance, like barely workman's comp. Whenever we got hurt, literally, I mean, that was like the waiver I signed. It was like, you're signing your life away, you

[00:46:36] Lori: know?

[00:46:38] Lori: And they didn't

[00:46:39] Lori: give a shit,

[00:46:39] Lori: you know,

[00:46:40] Lori: if you get injured, it's on you.

[00:46:42] Raye - ZAP: next.

[00:46:43] Lori: Yeah,

[00:46:44] Lori: Next, you're right, it was a revolving

[00:46:46] Lori: door.

[00:46:47] Lori: I

[00:46:47] Lori: mean,

[00:46:49] Lori: I know the answer to this question, but if you would've

[00:46:52] Lori: known

[00:46:54] Lori: how it was gonna end, would

[00:46:55] Lori: you have done anything?

[00:46:57] Does Zap have any regrets?

[00:46:57] Raye - ZAP: No.

[00:46:58] Raye - ZAP: No. I don't know what's gonna happen when I'm on the mountain teaching somebody snowboarding and some idiot comes out of the trees and knocks me and a child

[00:47:08] Raye - ZAP: into the ground.

[00:47:10] Raye - ZAP: You, don't know. You know, I can be bicyclist, uh, cycling around the lake and get hit by a car. You just don't know. So the, the film that I am putting out there, um, the Still waters, there's a lot of action in it, but it's all, it's all female. It's, and it's all,

[00:47:32] Raye - ZAP: it's not fantastical. It's like reality of what a

[00:47:37] Raye - ZAP: female can actually do.

[00:47:39] Raye - ZAP: And there's a lot of,

[00:47:40] Raye - ZAP: uh,

[00:47:42] Raye - ZAP: uh, flashbacks on where this girl, woman learned all of the,

[00:47:49] Raye - ZAP: I'm not

[00:47:50] Raye - ZAP: gonna say martial arts weapons, it's all in there. And it's, there's no guys taken down. It's all this one woman taking down these bad, bad people,

[00:48:02] Lori: these bad It's

[00:48:06] Lori: kind of like an Angelina Jolie that just goes ballistic and starts like kicking ass and taking names.

[00:48:11] Raye - ZAP: Yeah. Except she, uh, this, this woman's not 110 pounds.

[00:48:15] Raye - ZAP: This woman's about 150 pounds and has the background to do it instead of just a gun. There are no guns, there's no weapons. It's not like

[00:48:24] Lori: So it's your script. Are you gonna be in

[00:48:26] Lori: it?

[00:48:28] Lori: Oh, come on. You gotta write yourself

[00:48:30] Lori: in it

[00:48:31] Lori: somewhere

[00:48:32] Raye - ZAP: it for you.

[00:48:33] Raye - ZAP: It's just, it's funny cuz I wrote Stevie Nicks as my mom.

[00:48:37] Lori: Okay.

[00:48:38] Raye - ZAP: It's a backstory. It's, it's a pretty good backstory. It'll bring a tear to a lot of people's eyes. And there's a, uh, a, playlist that has a

[00:48:47] Raye - ZAP: lot of, Just old time music with Fleetwood Mac and yeah, there's about 12 songs I wrote to some of the scenes, but it's, it's a love story.

[00:49:01] Raye - ZAP: It's

[00:49:02] Lori: It's a love story of tour. A woman goes back and ticks, names,

[00:49:06] Lori: kicks a ass, and

[00:49:08] Lori: that's

[00:49:08] Lori: awesome.

[00:49:10] Raye - ZAP: Yeah. I'm gonna have to send you that script. Hey, Lori, before we go. What are you, what's, what's going on with you?

[00:49:18] Lori: Oh

[00:49:18] Lori: God. A podcast. I decided to do a

[00:49:21] Lori: podcast.

[00:49:24] Lori: I want Les. Here's

[00:49:26] Lori: the thing.

[00:49:26] Lori: This is, it's so funny we were

[00:49:30] Lori: so

[00:49:30] Lori: afraid to do shit, right. We could never, like, after we've talked about this, gladi year's was a, a, a curse and a blessing all at the same time.

[00:49:40] Lori: You know, it's like

[00:49:41] Lori: we loved doing the show, we loved everything about it, but after the show was over, it's like everything we wanted to do, we got our hands slapped.

[00:49:50] Lori: Nope, can't do that. Nope.

[00:49:51] Lori: Can't do

[00:49:52] Lori: that. Nope. Can't do that.

[00:49:53] Lori: So, and

[00:49:55] Lori: I realized it was like, okay, so nobody's real. All the podcasts, everybody comes on and goes, what's your favorite event? Right? That's always, I mean, even on my birthday, it's so

[00:50:09] Lori: funny. I got.

[00:50:10] Raye - ZAP: years later,

[00:50:11] Lori: I know I, I all these, you know, I got all these messages and I swear to God the last message was, loved you on gladiators. What was your favorite event?

[00:50:20] Lori: I have to

[00:50:21] Lori: laugh, but I was just like, and I

[00:50:23] Lori: understand

[00:50:23] Lori: that people wanna know. I get all that, but

[00:50:26] Lori: you know what

[00:50:27] Lori: nobody ever really did is they never got to know us. They ne they, they always talked about zap ice. The gladiators. What was your favorite event? We get all that, but what about us? They never actually really got to know who we were as people,

[00:50:43] Lori: and that's what I wanted

[00:50:45] Lori: to do. I

[00:50:46] Lori: wanted to do a podcast.

[00:50:48] Lori: I wanted to sit with my friends and go, let's just chat and have

[00:50:51] Lori: fun

[00:50:52] Lori: and let people get to know who we are and the struggles and the challenges and the fun that we had together.

[00:50:59] Lori: You know, that's what people never knew. We had a blast going to 106 cities, and you're right, it was grueling as shit, you

[00:51:07] Lori: know? But at the same time, we

[00:51:08] Lori: made some memorable

[00:51:10] Lori: bonding moments together, you know, that kind of fun stuff. Um, yes, there was some cat fights. Yes, there was some competition and drama.

[00:51:20] Lori: I mean, everybody come. All the women were Aries, I believe, almost, right? Were all a plus personalities. Of course, there's gonna be a little competition here and there, and it's good, healthy competition, you know? And so that's what I wanted to do. I

[00:51:36] Lori: mean, that was my biggest,

[00:51:37] Raye - ZAP: what I regret?

[00:51:38] Lori: Tell me.

[00:51:40] Raye - ZAP: is not sitting right next to you right

[00:51:42] Raye - ZAP: now.

[00:51:43] Lori: dude, come sit next to

[00:51:44] Lori: me. Uh uh. You know

[00:51:47] Lori: what,

[00:51:48] Raye - ZAP: wind,

[00:51:48] Lori: Here's the thing. It's like when it comes to podcasting, it's like you have your season and I had to learn all this by the way too.

[00:51:55] Lori: You know how many

[00:51:56] Lori: episodes are in a season? Well, it's whatever you want. It's your damn podcast, which is awesome. So let's say you do 10 episodes your first season, and then you're just second and third.

[00:52:04] Lori: This is gonna be a very fun, slow growing, and I've always wanted to do a podcast and have a guest co-host. I always thought it would be a blast. And who better to have my gladiator fucking sister sitting next to me? I would, it would be just amazing. So when you're asked, it's down here from Tahoe one day,

[00:52:26] Lori: let's do a season together,

[00:52:28] Lori: sit next to me and let's do this together.

[00:52:30] Lori: It'd be so much fun. That's, that's really the, it's the, the goal that I wanna have is just to have fun with this. Let people get to know us instead of zap ice Nitro, you know, the list goes on.

[00:52:45] Lori: but,

[00:52:45] Raye - ZAP: girl, chilling with ice. I love it.

[00:52:50] Lori: Ah, thank you.

[00:52:52] Lori: And, and

[00:52:52] Lori: I'm gonna,

[00:52:53] Lori: I'm gonna get, I'm, I can't take credit for that. You know who I can give that credit to. My girlfriend, April,

[00:53:00] Lori: she

[00:53:01] Lori: came up with that. She

[00:53:02] Lori: came up with

[00:53:03] Lori: chilling with ice

[00:53:04] Lori: and I was like,

[00:53:05] Lori: wow. That's

[00:53:07] Lori: awesome. Thank you. And I

[00:53:09] Lori: I have,

[00:53:09] Lori: I've gotten some really great comments on it, so I can't even take credit for it.

[00:53:12] Lori: She did

[00:53:12] Lori: that,

[00:53:13] Lori: you

[00:53:13] Lori: know, and it's, it was just really super

[00:53:17] Lori: cool.

[00:53:18] Lori: We reinvent ourselves so many times through our, throughout our lives, right. We reinvent ourselves and, and it's a constant reinventing because

[00:53:26] Lori: if we don't,

[00:53:27] Lori: then we get stuck stale and stagnant. I mean, how many times in your life have you had to like, kind of flip a switch

[00:53:35] Lori: and reinvent yourself

[00:53:36] Lori: because something's not working?

[00:53:38] Raye - ZAP: I haven't.

[00:53:40] Lori: Okay.

[00:53:42] Lori: That's,

[00:53:42] Lori: that's,

[00:53:43] Lori: that's a good answer. Tell me why everything's

[00:53:47] Lori: working.

[00:53:48] Raye - ZAP: I think the only time is right now to have taken the time to come up to Tahoe, get out of la, get out of that casting Bs I mean, I was a. I had a man management company for seven years.

[00:54:07] Lori: remember that.

[00:54:08] Raye - ZAP: What a mess. whole industry was a mess. I took, the chance, printed out my scripts, wrote Margot wrote her husband, the three other associates in the business because up in Tahoe it was moving up here for pretty much quality of life.

[00:54:28] Lori: It's

[00:54:29] Lori: gorgeous

[00:54:29] Raye - ZAP: to keep snowboarding. Yeah. To be on the lake and it's the summer times. but being taken, and Lori, you know, this being taken out of that, the industry that we are, I'm really good at it. And I know you are. And I just started sitting around. We got snowed in a couple months. Not kidding.

[00:54:52] Lori: Oh, I know. Yeah.

[00:54:54] Raye - ZAP: Mountain's not open. Can't teach.

[00:54:56] Raye - ZAP: there's

[00:54:56] Raye - ZAP: no work. You're sitting around. And that's when I went through my files and I was like, you know what, why not? So that's why I took a chance and, and I'm gonna start getting back into, uh, the

[00:55:09] Raye - ZAP: acting

[00:55:11] Lori: You

[00:55:11] Lori: know, You are good at it. And, and

[00:55:14] Lori: right now the industry has changed so much, especially

[00:55:20] Lori: after

[00:55:20] Lori: Covid. I

[00:55:21] Lori: can't tell you how many actors that,

[00:55:24] Lori: yeah. I still go to Gold's Gym in North Hollywood. I mean, it's like, you know, 12 o'clock noon and the place is packed and you go, does anybody

[00:55:30] Lori: work?

[00:55:31] Lori: They're all actors

[00:55:32] Lori: and

[00:55:33] Lori: producers

[00:55:34] Lori: and,

[00:55:35] Lori: But I've had a couple conversations, and right now, because of Covid, the industry has completely changed. Everything is Zoom online. You don't go into auditions anymore. The casting directors do not get to see who you are anymore. You come up as a small little thumbnail. It's

[00:55:52] Lori: very,

[00:55:53] Lori: for me, super amazingly frustrating as fuck.

[00:55:57] Lori: Because since Covid, I have actually probably auditioned, I don't know,

[00:56:04] Lori: 10, 15 times,

[00:56:06] Lori: haven't gotten one

[00:56:06] Lori: callback.

[00:56:08] Lori: And I've talked to other actors, and it's the same exact way. Because if you think about it, remember you used to walk in the room and you'd get, you'd, you'd look at the casting director and hey, you'd strike up a conversation.

[00:56:17] Lori: They'd be like, oh

[00:56:18] Lori: my God, you're zap

[00:56:19] Lori: from the gladiators. And you'd make 'em smile. You'd read your sc, you know, your, your sides, and boom, you'd probably get a call back and you'd land

[00:56:26] Lori: it.

[00:56:27] Lori: But now it's different. You're not missing shit

[00:56:30] Lori: down here

[00:56:31] Raye - ZAP: and it's saturated.

[00:56:32] Lori: Ugh. So saturated more

[00:56:36] Lori: So

[00:56:37] Raye - ZAP: that's another thing

[00:56:38] Lori: I know

[00:56:38] Lori: exactly. it's, it's nuts.

[00:56:41] Lori: Um,

[00:56:42] Raye - ZAP: don't know if I can say it, but maybe you can say it. Not sure what the hell is gonna happen when, um, that. Docu-series comes out.

[00:56:52] Raye - ZAP: Who knows?

[00:56:52] Lori: we have no idea.

[00:56:54] Lori: It might, it might blow up and be amazing.

[00:56:58] Lori: or it might just go

[00:56:59] Lori: wa w wa.

[00:57:01] Raye - ZAP: in a different direction.

[00:57:05] Lori: Yeah.

[00:57:05] Lori: Who

[00:57:05] Lori: knows?

[00:57:06] Raye - ZAP: I don't think about it, but it was fabulous to be back on set and get to see you guys. Um,

[00:57:12] Lori: oh my God, it's so good seeing

[00:57:13] Lori: everyone.

[00:57:15] Raye - ZAP: It was great.
